Michigan Training & Technical Assistance Collaborative

MITTAC was established in January, 1999. The mission of MITTAC is to coordinate the delivery of technical assistance provided to Michigan non-profit organizations and local units of government whom are engaged in sponsoring, producing, and/or operating affordable housing and/or housing-related supportive services.

MITTAC members provide direct one-on-one technical assistance focused on increasing the capacity of non-profit organizations and local units of government, thereby ultimately increasing the production of affordable housing and/or supportive services. MITTAC members also provide a wide variety of training workshops, also seeking to increase capacity.

Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM)
CEDAM was incorporated in 1998 as the statewide association of Community Development Corporations (CDCs). Members include CDCs, individuals, and other organizations interested in promoting and expanding community-based housing and economic development across the state of Michigan. CEDAM advances community economic development by: building the capacity of CDCs and other development partners to more effectively plan and implement community-based development projects through training and technical assistance; creating an opportunity for members to have a unified voice in public policy decisions that affect CDCs and the communities they serve; generating additional public and private resources for CDCs across the state; facilitating networking and sharing of valuable information; and exploring and providing member benefits that encourage the growth and sustainability of CDCs.

Community Legal Resources (CLR)
CLR helps nonprofit organizations in Detroit and throughout Michigan find affordable legal services. They match groups with volunteer attorneys specializing in: Corporate Law, Tax Law, Real Estate Law, Contracts Law, Environmental Law, Employment Law, Patent & Trademark Law, and Intellectual Property Law. Through their program, over 200 clients have been helped, and the amount of pro bono service exceeds $1 Million Dollars.

Corporation for Supportive Housing
CSH supports the expansion of permanent housing opportunities linked to comprehensive services for persons who face persistent: mental health; substance abuse; and other chronic health challenges, and are at risk of homelessness. CSH works collaboratively with private, nonprofit, and government partners so that these persons are able to live with stability, autonomy, and dignity. CSH works specifically to: help local organizations gain the financial and technical assistance they need to build more and better housing with services; create cutting-edge demonstration programs and experiment with promising models to test new ideas; facilitate sharing of successful techniques and strategies throughout the industry; and streamline and improve development and funding systems.

Michigan Capital Fund for Housing (MCFH)
It is the mission of the Michigan Capital Fund for Housing to create sustainable communities by providing quality, affordable housing and other economic and social opportunities for the poor and underprivileged and to promote self-sufficiency and upward mobility of very-low-, low-, and moderate-income households in a manner which helps promote diversity, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, lessen neighborhood tensions, and combat the deterioration of communities throughout the State of Michigan.

Michigan Community Development Directors Association (MCDDA)
MCDDA is a voluntary membership organization representing more than 180 community development professionals. MCDDA is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information, and the development of public policies supportive of community development in accordance with community needs. MCDDA holds quarterly meetings to update members on policy, program, legislative, and technical information affecting the community development environment.

Michigan Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)
LISC is a national corporation that provides grants, loans, technical assistance, and equity investments to Community Development Corporations (CDCs) for neighborhood redevelopment. National LISC matches locally-raised funds and gives that much more to the community for revitalization. The CDC then designates the funds to a variety of projects that will best suit the neighborhood. Michigan LISC has been in existence since 1988 and has assisted 45 CDCs in 11 cities across the state. In this time, Michigan LISC has not only helped to generate increased private and public support for CDCs, but has also served to increase CDC production and impact within the state.

Michigan Neighborhood Partnership (MNP)
MNP is a multicultural, non-partisan, membership intermediary organization. Founded in 1993, its mission is to assist neighborhood and faith-based organizations in Detroit to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through social and economic development. It is the only organization in the Metropolitan Detroit area begun by nine African-American, Latino, and Arab-American neighborhood and faith-based organizations to assist community based organizations in Detroit and Dearborn. Collectively, MNP's core member organizations represent over 200,000 urban residents. MNP brings together partners from all sectors of the community to generate the critical resources needed for the revitalization of communities – business, government, neighborhood and faith based organizations, educational institutions, and private volunteers interested in transforming the quality of life in Detroit-area communities.

Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)
MSHDA was established by the state Legislature in 1966 to address the housing needs of low and moderate income families, elderly people, and people with disabilities. MSHDA has invested nearly $4 billion in Michigan housing, covering every county of the state, for rental housing developments, home mortgages, property improvement loans, loans to landlords for renovations, grants to neighborhood housing groups, and other programs. The Authority also administers several federally-funded programs, including the HOME Investment Partnership Program, rent subsidies, grants to small communities, and assistance to homeless service providers. MSHDA does not build or renovate housing itself; rather, it functions more like a bank, providing financing directly to borrowers or through a network of private lending institutions. Most of MSHDA's programs operate as a public-private partnership. The Authority was established to provide affordable housing to those with lower incomes, but it also offers opportunities that assist people to become self-sufficient. By creating jobs, involving communities, eliminating barriers, and enabling Michigan residents with low- and moderate-incomes - especially those in distressed areas - to become more independent, MSHDA is helping to make Michigan a better place to live.

Neighborhood Partnership Academy (NPA)
NPA provides technical assistance to nonprofit organizations that are based in Detroit's federally funded Empowerment Zone. Detroit LISC, through a contract with the Empowerment Zone, staffs this effort and has provided technical assistance, technical assistance scholarships, and training to over a 100 organizations since 1996. In addition, NPA has played a key role in designing and implementing the D.O.C.T.O.R program, a technical assistance and planning initiative for commercial development that is funded through the City Planning Commission.

The Michigan Housing Trust Fund
The Michigan Housing Trust Fund provides financial assistance and technical support for the building and rehabilitation of affordable housing for low income individuals, groups and communities throughout Michigan to foster economic and social justice. The Trust Fund: accepts socially responsible investments from religious institutions, banks, individuals, foundations, and other organizations; provides low-interest loans and technical support to community groups and developers for the rehabilitation and production of affordable housing; helps community development organizations leverage their existing resources; and supports developers of quality, affordable housing, particularly non-profits, across the state, increasing their capacity to produce and rehabilitate housing.
